What Is a GPSR Technical File?

Under the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, manufacturers must prepare technical documentation for products covered by the GPSR. The documentation should identify the product, describe the characteristics relevant to its safety and document how its risks have been assessed and addressed.

The technical documentation must be kept up to date and available to market surveillance authorities for 10 years after the product has been placed on the market.

What Should You Include in a GPSR Technical File?

A practical GPSR technical file will normally include:

• Product description and identification
• Manufacturer and supplier information
• Product specifications and materials
• Internal risk assessment
• Applicable legislation and standards
• Test reports and other supporting evidence
• Product labels and safety warnings
• Instructions and other relevant documentation

The exact documentation depends on the product, its characteristics and the risks identified during the safety assessment.
