Under the EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, a technical file is mandatory for every consumer product before it is placed on the EU market. This file proves your product is safe and compliant, and must be available to authorities upon request. Without it, your product can be blocked, recalled, or fined.
The technical file must include key documentation such as product details, risk analysis, and supporting evidence (e.g. test reports and instructions). It must be kept up to date and retained for at least 10 years, and applies to all consumer products, including imports and online sales.
In the case your company is based outside the EU, your EU Authorized Representative will keep these files as well.
