The Food Contact Materials (FCM) symbol, also known as the glass and fork symbol, is used for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. Under Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, it is required where the food-contact purpose is not already obvious, unless the required indication is provided in words instead. Products that are clearly intended for food contact, such as forks, drinking glasses and cooking utensils, do not normally need the symbol.
